NIS2 vs ISO 27001: Differences and Overlap
NIS2/BSIG creates legal obligations for certain entities. ISO/IEC 27001 is an international standard for an information security management system. ISO certification therefore does not automatically equal NIS2 compliance.
Where ISO 27001 helps
ISMS scope, risk assessment, roles, control selection, Statement of Applicability, internal audits, management reviews and continual improvement create a strong governance structure.
Where NIS2 goes further
NIS2/BSIG has its own scope, reporting/registration duties, management obligations and supervisory mechanisms that must be handled separately.
Practical mapping
Avoid duplicate control universes. Maintain one control-and-evidence model that maps ISO, NIS2 and internal requirements to the same technical and organizational controls.
